For Those of You Who Care ...
Hello again!
I started this blog about two years back in response to a tragic car accident that involved one of my Young Life girls. Her friend Kaitlyn (who I knew as more of as an acquaintance) and my girl, Sabrina, were coming home from the beach when they were hit by a drunk driver. Kaitlyn died at the scene, but Sabrina was in a coma for a time that felt like forever.
Now, when this all happened, I had just returned back to work after four years staying at home with my two kids. My year back into teaching was NEW. HARD. and I got pregnant - so, well we can just call it an adjustment. But worst of all- I had moved so far away from a lot of my "people" ( you know who you are Wildcats) I had mentored/loved for the last four years prior.
My people- in every season of life- Now, That's God's REAL gift to me!
I was surrounded by those Wildcat teens for four years when we moved back to VA from South Carolina. We were new Young Life leaders for Great Bridge High school. It was our first time in ministry and our first time living/growing a family in front of and with others. Now, if you aren't around teenagers much- they are the most opinionated, judgy, stubborn, (sometimes- unreliable *sorry guys) people you'll ever come across... but MAN, they were MY PEOPLE and I loved them through and through.
They knew. Ask anyone of them.
So, what could I do for my people when one so near and dear was fighting death and all we could do was wait. I met them on this blog each day as we waited together- we coped to hope together. Fast forward to now, we are all thankful Sabrina is alive and doing well! YOU GO GIRL!
She just finished her freshman year at VA Tech and she's more fearless and sassy than ever!
I call this blog Mother Goins because, the day after the accident, my husband and I hosted a candlelight prayer around the lake of Sabrina's neighborhood for all her friends. When I saw my girls in the parking lot, one of them said to me "Crystal, you are like the mother of all of us . I smiled and said "You know it. I got to take care of you."
Oh. yes. Mother Goins am I and it still stands true today and hopefully, with Christ in my heart, it will be my role in people's lives always.
Once my people always my people. Oh Wildcats, nothing but love still for you!
With Love,
Crystal Goins
