Ash Wednesday: Oh Healthy Day of Repentance
Dear Readers,
Today. is. Ash. Wednesday.
Hoooorayy!!!
Growing up Catholic, I knew that Ash Wednesday marked the start of Lent
aka- no meat on Fridays and giving up something for 40 days.
Well, for some people, that's still the case- power to you!
For me, I don't really have my heart into any of those things, but I do desire to make it intentional.
Our church schooled me last week that Ash Wednesday really means...
The. Day. of. Repentance.
Ashes symbolize the death of Christ (who set us free from sin) and repentance ( sincere remorse or regret for doing something wrong aka sin).
It's really speaking to me as a NEED for this year.
Yesterday, I experienced a long day at work *in Kindergarten* essentially teaching them repentance- even though I didn't mean to.
At this time of the year, students get really comfortable.
Ultimately, complacent in what they can do, what they want to do, and how much they want to give.
Really, they are no different than adults-used to their daily grind.
As days continue and curriculum gets harder, it's a conscious choice to grow and change OR stay the same. In their little minds, they are fighting for their independence, avoiding what's uncomfortable, and settling for what's easy. In the flesh, it seems like a good life-for an individual. However, in a group setting, you see the days grow increasingly selfish and unproductive.
On this NEW day of Repentance, I really hope for more in the hearts of young people.
As a nation...
As a world...
As a Body of Christ...
I hope we do have more days of genuine remorse for the wrongdoings WE DO in this world.
I. pray. we. all. desire. growth. and. change. even. when it's inconvenient to our preferences or time.
I. declare. repentance. is healthy. for. all.
Really, that's the first seed towards reconciliation and forgiveness...
and the world definitely needs more of that!
Thank you Jesus for dying for our sins!
Thank you for working in our hearts towards selfless change!
