A Mother's Day Post: A Celebration of Women

Dear Readers,
Nails with Reagan

My heart goes out to all women today. I hope this blog post can bring a fresh new take on the holiday and serve your hearts for years to come.

It's Mother's Day 2020.
I woke up today with unorthodox thoughts of my childhood idols:  Mother Teresa and Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.  When I say childhood, I am talking about 2nd-6th grade.  Mother Teresa was a woman I admired because of her character and heart for the poor and the sick.  Elizabeth Ann Seton was just the only patron saint I remembered in my whole catholic education.  I remember being inspired by the life she lived for God.  She had five children, started her own charity, and ran a school that welcomed immigrants/ non-catholic children to become educated. She was the first American born saint.

At first, I was a little puzzled upon why these two woman have popped up in my head, but then I truly believe that God was re-defining this day for me.  Instead of just admiring the women of my life for the role they had been given.  I needed to dig deeper and admire all women for the change, influence, and impact they can have on this world.

Mother Teresa is a great example of a woman who was labeled mother with no biological children of her own.  She devoted her life to the heart work of caring for orphans and deathly ill.  She mothered  in a way that got the whole world to notice her goodness and humility.  That selfless love of a devoted woman is something I celebrate in my friends, family, and colleagues today- whether you have kids or not.

Elizabeth Ann Seton is a woman of  faith and integrity that did have her own kids.  She was also nicknamed Mother Seton.   However, I don't think it was just because she mothered her children just at home.  She cared for those in need all around her.  In reading about her life, she was always heartbroken for the people of different descent or religious denomination.   It was her courage, determination, compassion, and empathy that I always admired.  Those are all attributes of women I can still celebrate today!
More and more in podcasts, over social media, and in books- I listen and read about women speaking up for the wrongs in this world that need to be right.  I celebrate those women for their courage and vulnerability to be part of the change- even when it's hard.

Hard. looks. like. many. different. things.
depending on the season. or. circumstance.
NONETHELESS.
Motherhood is just about gratitude for being a woman.
It's about putting all judgments aside and appreciating...
WHAT. YOU. HAVE
AND
WHO. YOU. ARE.

Womanhood is unique, beautiful, and powerful- just as it is.   Mothering is a gift our gender  gives this world and we celebrate that today in its' many different forms and spans of influence.  No individual walking this Earth should ever go without a mothering touch of  selfless love and compassion.  If we remember days like this in true honor we can empower women to be the mothering example someone may need in their day.

Thanks for reading and listening!
